Kohima: Planning boards across Peren, Tseminyu, and Longleng held monthly sessions this week to tackle local development, disaster readiness, and upcoming Independence Day logistics. The meetings focused on district-specific mandates and essential public services.
In Peren, Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru led discussions on the closure of Government Primary School at Libemphai. Despite a government closure order, the school remains open with 26 students managed by community teachers. Senior SDEO officials noted that no government teacher has ever been posted there. The board voted to petition the School Education Department for a review and the immediate assignment of staff. Members also scheduled a mass social work event for August 7 at the DC Office Complex.
Peren officials approved LADP and ICONIC schemes for the 6 Tening and 7 Peren Assembly Constituencies. They also verified status reports for ongoing government office construction projects. Meanwhile, in Tseminyu, Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch oversaw meeting preparations and reviewed departmental assignments. Assistant Urban Development Officer L Rokovono led a briefing on Solid Waste Management 2026. The deputy commissioner emphasized, "The need for timely preparation of district-level action plans involving government departments, civil society organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders to strengthen waste management."
Longleng faced reports of significant storm damage. Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom directed agriculture and allied departments to file damage assessments after recent heavy rains crippled telecom services and blocked roads. The board also reviewed the establishment of a Civil Defence unit and addressed landowner disputes hindering work at the 132/33 KV substation at Pongo village. Longleng officials scheduled their own mass social work for August 8.
Looking ahead, Pungro officials have scheduled their Sub Divisional Planning and Development Board meeting for August 10 at 11 a.m. in the ADC office. Hotolu Sema will preside over the session.
