Kohima: The District Child Protection Unit of Zunheboto hit the ground running. Officials toured Akuluto and Satakha on August 17 and 18 to teach communities about child safety. The Department of Social Welfare organized the push.
DCPO Ruzonuo Rita Rutsa led the team alongside LCPO Lauying Konyak, Child Helpline Supervisor Omekali, and Case Worker Tokato. They visited Village Level Child Protection Committee members in Akuluto. The briefing covered legal rights, protection mechanisms, and how to use the 1098 Child Helpline.
Students sat through sessions at six different schools. In Satakha, the team hit Highland School, GHSS School Colony, and GMS Old Town on August 17. The next day, the crew moved to Akuluto for stops at Royal School, GHSS Akuluto, and Hill To Children Home School.
The presentations hit on safe touch, bullying, and the dangers of cyberbullying. Rutsa said the goal is simple. "The awareness initiatives aimed to empower children, teachers and community-level stakeholders with knowledge to prevent abuse, identify potential risks and seek timely assistance, while promoting the safety, dignity and protection of every child."
