Angami Public Organisation Launches App to Track Migrant Workers

Kohima: The Angami Public Organisation launched a digital verification app on August 18 to monitor outside workers throughout the Angami area. APO President Thejao Vihienuo inaugurated the tool at the APO Hall in Kohima. The group claims a rapid influx of illegal migrants and failures in state Inner Line Permit enforcement triggered the move. Numbers of migrants are rising at an alarming rate. The organization says this necessitates immediate tracking of all individuals in the area.

Field agents use the mobile application to log personal data, ILP status, employer details, and duration of stay. The system tracks movement across multiple locations by appending new records to existing files. It generates a digital pass for verified individuals and exports data into Excel sheets for administrators. The Angami Students' Union will lead the actual verification work. The APO expects other tribal bodies to join the effort because, as the organization stated, the "threats it associates with illegal migration are common to all Nagas."

The group is now pushing the Chief Secretary for tighter border controls. Demands include creating a dedicated ILP Cell, restoring check gates, and restricting permit renewals to two cycles. The APO wants workers tied to specific guarantors and advocates for a holding center for defaulters. They also proposed capping train services at Sukhovi Station and digitizing the entire ILP system to block unauthorized entries at airports and rail hubs.
