Kohima: The District Child Protection Unit in Mokokchung observed the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30. They held an awareness event at Police Station-I titled Trapped Behind the Scam. Attendees included staff from the Women Police Station, Child Welfare Committee members, and Child Helpline personnel. They focused on the rise of fraudulent job offers and online scams.
District Child Protection Officer Samuel Kapu opened the session. Resource person T Asula Imsong warned of deceptive recruitment tactics used to exploit vulnerable people. She called for community vigilance and youth education. ASI Limawati also spoke, telling the crowd to stay alert for false promises. Imsong stated, "She underscored the importance of community vigilance, awareness and coordinated efforts to prevent trafficking in persons."
The DCPU aims to improve protection through inter-departmental collaboration. They want government agencies and civil society to unite against these crimes. The agency intends to safeguard rights and dignity through these ongoing efforts.
Separately, the DCPU led an exposure trip for children from the Care and Support Children Home on Tuesday. The group visited Fazl Ali College to tour the botany lab, zoology museum, aviary, and digitised classrooms. They also toured the Horticulture Department Nursery and the State Agriculture Research Station at Yisemyong. Kapu noted these visits provide holistic development, hoping to boost confidence and motivate the children to pursue higher education.
