Kohima: Mon district officials delivered financial aid to families on Tuesday. They are mourning eight people killed by a landslide. The tragedy struck Thamnan Ward on July 19, 2026. Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman Wennyei Konyak handed out the checks.
The state provided 4 lakh rupees for each victim. This payment follows State Disaster Response Fund guidelines. Officials identified the deceased as Thenkhao Konyak, Tingyuh Konyak, Taotun Konyak, Toithron Konyak, Kenlong Konyak, Lunglei L Konyak, Pangho Konyak, and Pomei Konyak.
Witnesses attended the distribution. The event included the Additional Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Mon District Disaster Management Authority. Leaders from the Konyak Union and the Konyak Students’ Union were also present to observe the process. As one official noted, "The relief was handed over in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chief Executive Officer, Mon, as well as the presidents of the Konyak Union (KU) and the Konyak Students' Union (KSU)."
