Kohima: Residents gathered at Konyak Baptist Church in Mon on Sunday to mourn the victims of a deadly landslide. The disaster struck Defence Colony on July 19. The Konyak Baptist Church Mon organized the vigil.
Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak attended the service alongside public leaders. Two bodies remain missing after six days of search operations. Rescue teams include the 42 Assam Rifles, Nagaland Police, and the State Disaster Response Force.
"He urged them to remain strong and seek God's strength and comfort." The commissioner thanked government agencies, volunteers, and local residents for their work. He also acknowledged support from Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and nine elected representatives from the district.
Yinai, the lone survivor of his family and husband of the late Pomei, shared his testimony during the event. Minister C L John and his wife were in attendance. Union leaders from the Konyak Union, Konyak Students' Union, and the Eastern Naga Students' Federation delivered addresses. Rev. H. Moba Konyak led a final candle-lighting ceremony.
