Kohima: The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima, or CEDOK, handed out 8.5 lakh rupees in aid to 103 students in Mon. The funds helped families whose homes were ruined by natural disasters and accidents. The money also supported those mourning losses from the July 19 landslide. It was a massive effort. Catholic schools across Nagaland pooled their cash after Rev Fr Dr Jacob Charalel put out a call for help.
Students and teachers gave what they could. This support crossed all lines of tribe, race, and religion. On August 19, the team visited the grieving families to offer prayers. Distribution events followed on August 20 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and St John Higher Secondary School. Families got 15,000 rupees each, while individual students received 9,000 rupees.
Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak spoke at the event. He warned residents that the area is prone to natural calamities and pushed for better disaster preparedness. He also praised the Catholic Church for its work. Konyak Union Secretary Yongwan Konyak and ANPSA Mon unit head L Yajao Konyak also backed the effort.
CEDOK officials described the initiative as an "expression of solidarity and support for affected families as they rebuild their lives." The group thanked the district administration, the Konyak Union, and local school leaders for help with the logistics. These groups worked together to reach those in need.
