Kohima: The Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority held a seminar on the civil and criminal justice system on October 31. The event took place at the DC Conference Hall in Zunheboto. Roughly 40 people attended the session. Retainer Lawyer Easter H Yepthomi moderated the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj opened the event. He told the attendees, "The importance of strengthening coordination among the Administration, Judiciary and Dobashis, while promoting greater awareness of legal procedures and the respective responsibilities of stakeholders in the effective administration of justice" was vital. Raj wants better teamwork between these groups.
District and Sessions Judge Atoka Achumi ran the main session. He broke down the differences between civil and criminal law. Civil cases focus on rights and duties. Criminal law deals with specific offenses against the state. Achumi instructed the group on the rules of natural justice, fairness, and the need for neutral decision-making. He also covered technical tasks like issuing summons, keeping accurate records, and managing witnesses.
The group moved into an interactive session. Dobashis asked about family fights, serving summons, and evidence. Administration staff brought up land disputes. They all talked about the need to stay impartial during hearings. The DC suggested the ZDLSA run a specialized training course for Dobashis to sharpen their skills. Public Prosecutor Khetoholi J. Yeputhomi ended the day with a formal vote of thanks.
