Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched a two-day seminar on Criminal Justice Administration in Imphal. Held at the Manipur State Film Development Society, the event focused on shifting from colonial-era codes to the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
State leaders want faster justice. The new framework prioritizes victim rights, scientific investigation methods, and digital technology. Both men argued that success depends on tight cooperation between the police, prosecution, judiciary, and prison staff.
"The administration of criminal justice is the cornerstone of a democratic society, safeguarding citizens' rights, maintaining public order and reinforcing confidence in constitutional institutions," Bhalla said. He maintains that better coordination will boost public trust and stabilize the state.
Chief Minister Singh called for better integration across the legal fraternity to ensure the laws deliver on their promise of a citizen-centric system. Chief Justice M. Sundar added that the seminar showcases a joint commitment to keeping the legal process humane and fair.
The Home Department, the Law and Legislative Affairs Department, and the Manipur Judicial Academy organized the event. Notable attendees included High Court judges A. Bimol Singh and A. Guneshwar Sharma, Advocate General Lenin Singh Hijam, and Director General of Police Mukesh Singh. Members of the Bar Council also attended the sessions.
