The GNF claims the state is picking on Kamei while ignoring similar provocative speech from other groups. Manipur remains gripped by a long ethnic conflict. Many individuals have made critical remarks against the government and security forces. The forum stated that Kamei is being "singled out" for criminal prosecution. They argue that dissent should not lead to jail time.
Records show the office of the Additional Director General of Police is driving the case. The GNF warned that this selective approach hurts public trust. They fear these actions deepen divides between communities. The group asked officials to show restraint instead of rushing into criminal proceedings. They believe the state must protect the right to free speech even during intense political instability.
