Imphal: Manipur's legal system cleared a massive backlog on Saturday. The third National Lok Adalat of 2026 resolved 404 disputes across nine judicial districts and the High Court. Settlements reached a total value of 5,20,51,973 rupees. The Manipur State Legal Services Authority organized the event alongside the High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities.
Proceedings covered original suits, money recovery claims, and matrimonial disputes. Officials also processed Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases and bank recovery matters. Chief Justice M. Sundar and Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma visited the Lamphel Court Complex to monitor the work. They met with lawyers, litigants, and judicial officers while handing out awards to parties who found common ground.
Justice Sundar explained that the sessions provide a quick path to peace. He said, "Saturday's sitting was the third National Lok Adalat of the year." Bank officials worked with borrowers to cut costs. Many deals included waivers of more than 50 percent on principal amounts. Some lucky participants saw their interest charges wiped out entirely.
Justice A. Bimol Singh checked on the work at the Thoubal Court Complex. He handed out awards to successful participants there. Officials now look toward the future. The fourth National Lok Adalat is already on the books for December 12. Justice Sundar urged the public to show up in force for that date.
