Manipur Dominates India's U-15 FIFA World Cup Squad

Imphal: Manipur sent eight players to the Indian national squad for the U-15 FIFA World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan. The tournament ran from October 24 to 30. India fielded 14 players total. This means Manipuris made up more than half the team.

Midfielder Amom Birjit Meitei returned to Imphal today. He wore jersey number 6 during the competition. He calls Wangoo Naodakhong home, located in the Kumbi Assembly Constituency. Fans and officials gathered at Imphal International Airport to greet the returning athletes.

Kumbi AC social worker Shanjoy Ahanthem attended the reception. He noted the state continues to leave a mark on international football. Ahanthem insisted the state needs better gear and training to grow. He said, "Manipur could produce more players capable of representing India at the FIFA World Cup and bringing greater recognition to the country."

Elders in Wangoo Naodakhong welcomed Birjit back to his home village. They cheered his performance and future prospects. Supporters hope he continues to play for India in major events.
