Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 on November 1 at Khuman Lampak in Imphal. He flagged off a cyclothon to get the public moving and thinking green. The state government is running the campaign through November 7 to push for better daily habits.

This initiative follows Mission LiFE, a project started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to change everyday routines for the planet. Singh pointed to the state’s forests, wetlands, and rivers as precious assets. He said, "environmental conservation was a collective responsibility and not just the duty of the government."

Around 200 cyclists rode from Khuman Lampak, covering Khuyathong Road, Babupara, and stretches of Imphal West and East before returning. Singh led the crowd in an environmental pledge and planted saplings at the sports complex. Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and various officials stood with the students to mark the start.

The Chief Minister demanded action from citizens and local groups. He wants everyone to cut down on plastic, save water, and stop wasting energy. Schools and government offices are expected to join the mission immediately.

Beyond cutting plastic and saving resources, the Chief Minister explicitly challenged residents to keep public spaces clean. He framed the initiative as a drive to bolster physical fitness alongside environmental awareness. The campaign is pushing for a cleaner, greener, and healthier state through these collective habits.
