Manipur Opens New River Front Garden to Clean Nambul River

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh opened the River Front Garden at Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak in Imphal on September 26. He attended the event alongside Keishamthong MLA Nishikanta Singh Sapam. The garden spans the area from Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak to Ngakraba Bridge.

The state government built the site through the Department of Environment and Climate Change. It sits under the Rejuvenation of the Nambul River project. This work follows the National River Conservation Plan from the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Officials hope to restore the polluted waterway for future use.

The Chief Minister called on locals to help. He wants residents to watch over the site. He told the crowd, "The government alone could not achieve the challenging goal of restoring the river without the cooperation of local residents."

Collective ownership is key. He urged stakeholders, civil society groups, and local clubs to join the effort. Every citizen living near the river must help keep it clean.
