Imphal: Security forces hammered insurgency and drug networks across Manipur over the last 24 hours. Officers from state police, central forces, and anti-drug groups launched coordinated raids to dismantle extortion rings and trafficking routes. The operations led to six arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics.
In Imphal West, a joint team including the Thoubal District Police Commando, Imphal West Commando, and the 46 Assam Rifles tracked down an alleged member of the banned Kangleipak Yaol Kanba Lup. They arrested 21-year-old Chongtham Chetan Singh, also known as Pari, at his home in Sagoltongba Mayai Leikai. Authorities claim Singh played a role in local extortion schemes.
Anti-narcotics efforts yielded significant contraband. In Churachandpur, police intercepted 35-year-old Manglo Ngailianching at Thingkangphai village. Officers searched her and found 10 soap cases holding 112 grams of suspected brown sugar. She faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
A separate raid at Keikol targeted a suspected drug hub. A task force of the Imphal East Police, CRPF, and the group Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur arrested Robin Thapa, 23, Sarju Chetry, 33, and Padam Rai, 38. The bust netted 1.020 kilograms of suspected brown sugar, a Honda Activa scooter, and three mobile phones.
Lilong police also broke up a drug deal involving two brothers. They arrested Md. Imtiyaz Khan, 22, and Md. Akbar, 36, after finding 24 grams of suspected heroin in their possession. Officials confirmed that "further investigation is underway to establish the source of the seized substances and identify other individuals allegedly linked to the drug networks." All suspects remain in custody as investigators pursue leads on wider criminal connections.
