Imphal: Imphal East District Police and security forces locked up three men on October 4. The anti-narcotics operation netted 318 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. It was a bust based on reliable intelligence.

Officers targeted the Ningthem Pukhri Mapal area. They nabbed 41-year-old John Longjam, the son of the late L. Herojit Meitei, for holding 158 bottles of CHOCO+ Coup syrup. Each bottle contained 10 mg of Codeine Phosphate. Longjam spilled the beans under questioning. This led the team to the residence of 41-year-old Longjam Wanglen, the son of the late L. Noren, at Naoremthong Khulem Leikai. He is now in custody.

The investigation moved fast. Wanglen pointed the finger at 29-year-old Ningthoujam Henching, the son of N. Chaoba of Singjamei Oinam Thingel. Officers found 160 bottles of the same syrup with Henching. Police said, "The three arrested persons, along with the seized items, were handed over to Porompat Police Station for further legal action."

The operation took two vehicles off the road as well. Police seized a Mahindra XUV and a TVS Jupiter scooter. All evidence is now with the Porompat authorities.
