Imphal: Over 250 runners hit the pavement in Manipur on September 9. The 94 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force organized a 10-km marathon in the conflict-ridden district of Kangpokpi. The race started at Brigadier Thomas Ground. Runners headed down NH-2 toward Kalapahar and circled back to the finish line. Water stations kept participants hydrated at four spots along the course.
This event operated under the banners of Khelo India, the Sports Authority of India, and SPANDAN. Leadership came from the Inspector General of Police for the Manipur-Nagaland Sector and the Commandant of the 94 Battalion. Notable guests included Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council CEO James Doujapao Haokip, former Indian Super League player Boithang Haokip, and Sadar Hills Football Academy founder Elminhao Kilong.
James Doujapao Haokip praised the effort. He said such events could "encourage discipline, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles while strengthening community participation and unity." He noted that local sports figures might inspire the next generation of athletes.
L. Lunminlal Khongsai took the gold, a certificate, and Rs 10,000. Lamkhotinsei Kipgen grabbed silver with Rs 6,000. Lamginmang Vaiphei rounded out the top three, taking home bronze and Rs 4,000. Organizers also handed out certificates to the top 50 finishers. The CRPF stated the event proved their dedication to healthy living and community bonds.
