Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur officially condemned the arrest of seven Kholen village residents by the Central Reserve Police Force in Kangpokpi district. The group includes a church leader. These detentions occurred on September 20 following a string of violent attacks. Tensions flared after NSCN-IM militants allegedly killed six Kuki villagers, including two women. Another woman died from her injuries, with reports of her passing varying between Saturday and Sunday.
Kuki Inpi blasted the authorities for failing to pursue the killers while focusing on civilian arrests. The organization claimed security forces fired live rounds at peaceful demonstrators demanding safety. They reported that police vandalized multiple vehicles during the chaos, including a car belonging to journalist Kaybie Chongloi.
The group demanded an immediate release of all detained individuals. They also called for a formal investigation into the alleged excessive use of force and full compensation for destroyed property. Kuki Inpi warned that the Kuki community refuses to tolerate these tactics, stating the community "will not sit by silently" if these actions continue. They cited persistent hardship and selective enforcement as major issues currently plaguing the region.
