Imphal: The 112 Battalion of the CRPF held a 10-km marathon in Taphou, Kangpokpi district, on Saturday. The event aimed to bridge deep ethnic divides. Youths from Naga, Kuki, Nepali, and other communities competed under the Spandan-Khelo India initiative. Organizers reported between 54 and 70 total participants. They ran despite a steady drizzle.
Kh Zabed Hussain, 19, crossed the finish line first with a time of 34 minutes and 52 seconds. He took home the top prize of 10,000 rupees. Maheingam Teinamei finished second at 37 minutes and 56 seconds, earning 6,000 rupees. Kullakpam Albas secured third place at 38 minutes and 12 seconds, collecting 4,000 rupees. All participants received medals and certificates for their efforts.
Commandant Ranjan Baruah led the event under the IGP Manipur and Nagaland Sector in partnership with the Sports Authority of India. He spoke to the crowd about the goals of the race. "CRPF remains committed to undertaking community-oriented activities aimed at youth engagement, empowerment and overall development," Baruah said. The event drew local village chiefs, elders, and civil society representatives to a single platform.
This race served as a rare moment of unity. It offered a symbolic break from Manipur’s ethnic violence. Organizers hope the event builds long-term ties between security forces and local communities. The day focused on discipline, teamwork, and peace.
