Imphal: The Central Reserve Police Force launched its SPANDAN initiative across Imphal this week. The program aims to boost youth fitness and community harmony. CRPF teamed up with the Sports Authority of India for a series of high-stakes events.
At Malom, the A/69 Battalion hosted a mini marathon. 224 runners competed out of 439 who signed up. Second-in-Command Pramod Choudhary watched as Md Rahish Khan crossed the finish line first with a time of 33:27, earning 10,000 rupees. Kamsing Jaipui placed second, while Md Wajir took third. The event honored 54-year-old Louremban Jiten Singh as the oldest participant.
The 109 Battalion held a 10-kilometer cycle race through Tiddim Road. About 100 riders started at Kangla's western gate. Padma Shri Awardee Oinam Bembem Devi attended the event. She noted, "She also appreciated the CRPF's efforts to expand sports participation in Manipur." Athokpam Bickey, Angom Yaiphaba, and Th. Gyananda claimed the top three spots.
Finally, the 120 Battalion kicked off a football tournament in Maklang on September 11. MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh inaugurated the matches alongside Commandant Rajeev Lochan. Twelve teams face off in two pools. The competition features 12 matches, with the final showdown set for September 14. The winner takes home 10,000 rupees and a trophy.
