Imphal: The 66 Battalion of the CRPF held a 10-kilometer mini-marathon today at the 2nd MR Ground in Imphal. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee N. Kunjarani Devi flagged off the race. The event ran under the theme Sports for Peace and Development Across the Nation. One hundred youths joined the run. Md. Rahish Khan took first place, earning 10,000 rupees. Sandham Punshiba Singh finished second for 6,000 rupees, and Rexim Moirangthem took third for 4,000 rupees.
Meanwhile, the 71 Battalion organized a separate marathon at Kwakta Ground. Commandant Pramod Kumar Singh and Second-in-Command Pappu Kumar Rajak managed the event under the supervision of DIG Ghanashyam Behwal. The race pulled in 400 athletes, locals, and CRPF staff. Participants ran from Kwakta Ground through PGCI Bazar, Heiyakon, Saiton, Cherangpat, and Sangai Ethnic Park Road before ending at Kwakta Bazar.
C, D, and G Companies ran three separate events. Each race winner earned 10,000 rupees, with 6,000 and 4,000 rupees for the runners-up. The top 100 finishers received medals, certificates, and T-shirts. Organizers touted the event as a way to unite the region. Reflecting on the effort, officials noted the marathon aims at "Sports for Peace and Development Across the Nation."
