Imphal: Four thousand people swarmed the streets of Churachandpur, Manipur, for the 2026 CCPUR Half Marathon. The 58 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force teamed up with the Sports Authority of India to host the race. They pushed for peace, community fitness, and a drug-free life for the region's youth.
The event aimed to spark interest in sportsmanship while pulling young people away from harmful habits. Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar praised the CRPF for the event. He told the crowd, "My appreciation goes to the entire team of the CRPF battalion for taking such an initiative. To the youth, I would like to say: be a beacon of good hope, believe in peace and unity, and stay away from drugs."
Commandant Suraj Phogat of the 58 Battalion said he wants to keep local kids busy. He thinks physical activity is the best defense against getting led astray. "We believe that people out here are more interested in sports activities. Unless you engage the youth in such physical activities, they get diverted," Phogat said. He considers the current turnout a success.
Phogat aims to draw over 10,000 runners to future races. The CRPF plans to keep this momentum going with new football and volleyball tournaments. They want to use sports to bind the community together.
