Shillong: Meghalaya pulled in Rs 216 crore in Goods and Services Tax revenue this October. That marks a 35 per cent jump from the Rs 160 crore collected during the same month last year. Officials confirmed these numbers on November 1.
The state now ranks third for GST growth across the northeast. Assam leads the pack with a 47 per cent surge, moving from Rs 1,315 crore to Rs 1,934 crore. Manipur holds second place. Its revenue climbed 40 per cent to Rs 90 crore from Rs 64 crore.
Sikkim stands alone as the region's only loser. It reported a 28 per cent drop, with collections sliding to Rs 221 crore from the Rs 307 crore recorded a year ago.
Meghalaya showed extra strength in other metrics. Pre-settlement State GST collections spiked by 81 per cent. This figure hit Rs 84 crore in October, up from Rs 47 crore in the same period last year. Official data highlights this sharper increase as a key indicator for the state's financial performance. As the officials noted, "Meghalaya recorded a 35 per cent year-on-year growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue in October."
