Headmaster slams MBoSE for December exam schedule

Shillong: Kiddies Corner Secondary School headmaster Brian Wallang blasted the Meghalaya Board of School Education for scheduling SSLC examinations in December. He says the timing kills co-curricular involvement for students in their final year. The board failed to consult principals before setting the date. "I wonder why the government has set December for the SSLC examinations because it deprives Class 10 students of co-curricular activities in their last year at school," Wallang said during Saturday’s annual concert.

Parents kept students away from the event to protect study time. The school, founded by the late Sheila Wallang, marks 50 years of operation in 2028. Education Commissioner Vijay Mantri and Shillong Times Editor Patricia Mukhim attended the performance. Students from nursery through high school showcased their talents through music and dance.

The high school troupe performed a musical called Breakin Free. It challenged parents to support personal career goals rather than forced expectations. The school also maintains a focus on environmental action through its bi-monthly clean-up of the Umkaliar River. Mantri praised the staff for the organized three-hour event. He noted that true education requires well-rounded growth instead of just high test scores.

The school holds a history of achievement beyond the classroom. Their choir has competed on the international stage. Recent athletic success includes the Asia Oceania Kettlebell Sport Championship in Goa. Iaphilaihun took home the best junior lifter title, while Raikom Timung earned a gold medal. Brian Wallang secured a silver medal in the competition.
