Khasi and Jaintia Hills schools set for critical policy meeting

Shillong: School leaders gather in Shillong on October 20 to confront systemic funding and policy hurdles. Representatives from aided, unaided, permitted, and recognised schools across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills will pack the Khasi National Dorbar Hall. The meeting starts at 11:30 am.

The Meghalaya Schools Welfare Development Association Central Body convened this session to hammer out local grievances. They need solutions. Discussions will center on the National Education Policy rollout, government grants, and the formal status of unaided primary schools. The group also plans to challenge pupil-teacher ratio requirements dictated by the Right to Education Act.

Attendees will review a memorandum previously sent to the Department of School Education and Literacy. This document covers foundational education, enrollment criteria, and infrastructure deficits. Operational headaches surrounding the PM-POSHAN scheme remain a top priority. The agenda also includes the CM-IMPACT PLUS Grant-in-Aid Scheme for secondary and higher secondary schools, which the state Cabinet approved on September 15.

Principals, head teachers, and School Management Committee members will determine the group’s next moves. "Resolutions adopted at the end of the session will determine the association’s formal representations to the state and central governments." The final plans will dictate how these institutions lobby for change in the months ahead.
