Kohima: The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation sent a stern warning to school officials this week. They forbid the transfer of any teacher from the Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction unless a proper reliever is ready to step in. The move comes as the region faces an acute shortage of educators. Officials must prioritize student needs.
The Federation acknowledged Notification No.ED/PLN/RATIONALIZATION/2021 (Pt)/899 from the Directorate of School Education, dated March 24, 2026. They clarified they do not oppose official government policy regarding transfer procedures. Instead, they want to stop the ongoing decline in classroom staff. The group stated, "In view of the prevailing shortage, the Federation cannot afford to permit further depletion of the existing teaching strength within the Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction."
Some teachers are trying to leave the region despite the lack of staff. The ENSF has directed all DEOs, Sr. SDEOs, SDEOs, Heads of Schools, and School Management Committees to block these requests. They must not recommend or forward any transfer application that lacks a confirmed replacement. The Federation warned that these transfers often ruin the teacher-student ratio and hurt school performance.
Local units will now keep a close watch on all transfers. Any official who violates this directive faces reporting and further action. The Federation insists they are not trying to block the government. They just want leaders to use "utmost prudence and responsibility" when moving staff around the region.
