Kohima: Nagaland schools are running out of time. With only 10 days left before the September 30 cutoff, 1,375 schools have yet to finish the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) assessment. The state must scramble to meet the deadline.
As of September 19, only 1,325 of the 2,700 targeted schools completed the process. This puts the current completion rate at 49.07 percent. Records show 1,728 schools started the self-evaluation, but progress stalled for many. The initiative covers both private and government schools in rural and urban areas.
The Ministry of Education project measures school standards for hygiene and green practices. Schools evaluate their own water access, toilets, handwashing stations, and operation and maintenance protocols. They also report on behavior change initiatives and Mission LiFE activities. These assessments help officials identify facility gaps and plan future upgrades.
Failure to finish the self-assessment prevents schools from moving into the subsequent recognition stages. A government report noted the impact of these delays, stating: "The pending figure means 1,375 targeted schools are yet to complete the assessment, and therefore have not entered the subsequent assessment and recognition stages of the SHVR process." Without full data, the state struggles to track sanitation and environmental health accurately across its educational network.
