Nagaland Schools to Roll Out New Student Progress Cards in 2027

Kohima: The Nagaland Board of School Education will replace traditional exam grading with a new Holistic Progress Card. The rollout begins in January 2027 for Class IX students. Class X students follow in 2028. This system tracks a learner throughout the year instead of judging them on a single high-stakes test.

The card measures Awareness, Sensitivity, and Creativity. Students land in one of three categories: Beginner, Proficient, or Advanced. Assessment relies on teacher input, student self-reflection, and peer feedback. Prof Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of the national body PARAKH, stated, "The Holistic Progress Card is a national instrument for assessing a learner's progress and development, designed by PARAKH under the National Education Policy 2020."

NBSE held two orientation phases to prepare staff. The first occurred October 28 at Greenwood School in Kuda Village, Dimapur. The second followed October 30 at the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts in Jotsoma, Kohima. One teacher from every registered school across all 17 districts attended these sessions.

Participants practiced filling out mock profiles and holding sample parent-teacher meetings. Each school must submit an Action Taken Report to the Board by December 15, 2026. Teachers who attended the training are now tasked with orienting their remaining secondary-level colleagues. The Board has provided video tutorials on YouTube and uploaded resource materials to their official portal to assist with the transition.
