Kohima: Lotha Students Union leaders are cracking down on failing government schools. President S. Zubenthung Ngullie and Education and Statistical secretary Lichon Kithan issued a direct order to union units across their jurisdiction. The goal is simple. Hold the system accountable.
Reports of teachers skipping class and using proxies sparked the move. LSU officials say current digital tracking methods are failing. They point to the SMILE App and Nagaland Vidya Samiksha Kendra as top-down tools crippled by poor internet access in remote areas. This leaves schools relying on paper registers that are easily faked. The union claims this leads to the “manipulation and misrepresentation of data.”
The union expects intensive ground assessments to fix the rot. Every unit must document irregularities and submit findings immediately. The warning to staff is clear. Teachers and school authorities caught engaging in malpractice will face disciplinary action. To get the job done, the union is calling on Village Councils, School Management Committees, and parents to step up. They want every stakeholder to push for transparency and quality in local classrooms.
