JKM Urges Government to Relocate Lirmen School After Landslides

Kohima: Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) leaders inspected Noklangsangba Government High School in Lirmen on July 27. They went to check the damage from severe landslides that struck the area on July 19. The school site is crumbling. The ground is unstable and shifting.

JKM president Angemangyang and general secretary Tiarenla met with the Lirmen Village Council to review the destruction. They concluded that the school cannot keep operating at its current location. Further ground subsidence threatens the lives of students, teachers, and staff. The group warned that keeping the school open on the current lot puts everyone at risk.

Summer break ends soon. Students need a safe place to learn. JKM noted that temporary fixes are not enough. They want the government to act now. The organization issued a formal appeal to state authorities to begin building a new school immediately. They stated, "The organisation stressed that continuing classes at the existing site would place lives at considerable risk."

Officials must treat this project with total urgency. Students require a secure environment to resume their studies without more delay.
