Kohima: Persistent rainfall triggered a massive landslide in Zunheboto at Alahuto Colony. The ground continues to sink. A church Sunday School building, a critical road, and a vital electricity pole now face imminent destruction. The sinking earth already claimed a chunk of property near the fellowship building.
Alahuto Colony GB Shitokhu warned that a collapse would cut off a primary route for residents. "We have a very narrow road, and if this landslide takes away the road, it will be very difficult for the colony members," he said. He first alerted authorities on July 20, but officials ignored the warning. No preventative work has started.
The threat extends to the power grid. A leaning electricity pole feeds more than 200 households across the slope. Colony leaders plan to coordinate with the Power Department to save the structure. The colony encompasses over 3,000 households total. SBCZ Associate Pastor Vihoto H Awomi noted that natural disasters are hammering districts across Nagaland. Local leaders are now demanding immediate construction of a retaining wall to stabilize the site.
