Road link restored in Zunheboto as water pipeline work drags on

Kohima: Crews finished repairs on the Yezami village road at Arkha’s Coffee Farm near Tizu Bridge. The fix restores the vital link between Aghunato and Suruhoto. A July 20 landslide tore up the road and a critical water line. It killed local connectivity for weeks.

MLA and Advisor K. Tokugha Sukhalu pushed the project forward. He donated Rs. 1 lakh to speed up the work. The Zunheboto District Administration, the Public Health Engineering Department, and the Public Works Department managed the site. Workers finally cleared the unstable ground.

Now the focus turns to the town’s broken water supply. The 150 mm seamless high-pressure pipeline remains out of commission. It runs 37 kilometres from Melahu to the reservoir at North Point Colony. The reservoir holds 4 lakh litres of water. Ngozubo and Melahu villages feed the system.

The department previously warned that fixing the line would be a slog. Officials cited difficult terrain and the loss of the original alignment. They must find a new path for the pipes. “Restoration of the waterline remains for resuming regular water supply services to Zunheboto Town,” the department noted in a statement. The town has no other backup source.
