Kohima: The main road leading to the Zunheboto Deputy Commissioner and Treasury offices is a wreck. Potholes swallow most of the surface. Little to no blacktop remains on the stretch. Recent, relentless rain has made the situation worse. Water fills the deep craters, hiding them from drivers and pedestrians until it is too late.
Drivers also leave their vehicles parked along both sides of the damaged route. Sometimes, cars sit right in the middle of the lanes. This blocks traffic and forces commuters to fight through heavy congestion while trying to reach these vital government buildings.
Locals are fed up. One concerned citizen questioned the government's priorities, stating, "If the approach road to the district's administrative centre remains in such a condition, what residents can even expect regarding the maintenance of other public infrastructure."
Residents are calling on the relevant departments to act now. They want immediate road repairs and strict rules to stop the messy roadside parking. Fixing this route remains the only way to restore safe passage for everyone working or visiting the site.
