Kohima: Zunheboto officials confirmed that 31,588 rural households now have tap water connections. This accounts for 95.46 percent of the district total. The District Water and Sanitation Mission reviewed these figures on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj chaired the session. Back in August 2019, only 2,713 homes had this access. That was just 8.13 percent.
A recent landslide broke the main water supply pipeline. The district administration and the Public Health Engineering Department are now fixing it. Addressing the outage, Dharam Raj said, "We are aware of the water supply issues caused by the damaged pipeline. The district administration and the PHED department are working together in coordination to ensure that the restoration is completed as early as possible."
The region has 33,089 total rural households. Officials must connect 1,501 more to reach every home. All 186 villages now fall under the Har Ghar Jal program. Of those, 162 have achieved full coverage. Teams continue work on two Multi Village Schemes and one Single Village Scheme. Village committees now handle local maintenance.
The district hit 162 ODF Plus villages under the Swachh Bharat Mission. They aim for full status by October. Revenue efforts also show progress. The PHED division collected 25.42 lakh rupees for the 2025-26 period. That hits 84.7 percent of their 30 lakh rupee goal. The team tracks 2,321 total water consumers across five subdivisions.
