Kohima: Zunheboto’s District Planning and Development Board met on July 18 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. Chairman K Tokugha Sukhalu and Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj led the session. They reviewed past actions and cleared a slate of new projects to boost district infrastructure.
The board approved a new Fire and Emergency Services Station for Akuluto Town. Officials cited the site’s strategic value, noting its proximity to Nagaland University and JNV Lumami. They also greenlit a Public Health Engineering Department office in Satakha and the construction of a District Welfare Office building in Zunheboto.
Educational support remains a priority. The board recommended grant-in-aid status for Mount View School in Suruhuto and Convent Kids School in Zunheboto. They also finalized the Local Area Development Programme for 2026-2027 and set the Inter-Departmental Tournament for September 2026.
Divisional Forest Officer Obed Bohovi Swu introduced a Community Social Responsibility Model. The initiative encourages voluntary environmental stewardship across all sectors, including churches and youth groups. The board endorsed this proposal alongside a pilot Green Campus Initiative at Zunheboto Government College. “If implemented effectively, the ComSR framework could emerge as one of the first district-level models in Nagaland dedicated to institutionalising community participation in environmental governance,” Swu said.
Sukhalu pushed staff to stay present in the district. He noted that officials frequently travel to Kohima or Mokokchung due to a lack of housing. This absence disrupts public service. Sukhalu asked for reports on missing infrastructure to prioritize building projects. He reminded the board that sincerity defines a successful career. “I would like the departments that do not have quarters or office buildings to let me know without hesitation. I understand that everything cannot be done at once, but I will prioritise your requirements based on urgency,” he told the room.
Hokishe Chophy presented updates on HIV and AIDS initiatives. The Rural Development Department will lead the next meeting with a breakdown of MGNREGA and VB-G RAM G projects.
