Kohima: Mon district wrapped up a week-long World Population Day campaign on July 18. The drive aimed to boost family planning and birth spacing. It targeted mothers and couples across the region. The District Programme Management Unit of the National Health Mission organized the event under the theme, "Healthy Timing and Spacing Between Pregnancies for the Well-being of Mother and Child and to Prevent Unintended Pregnancies."
The push started on July 11. Moie Bonnie Konyak led the orientation for health personnel to prep them on strategy. Staff focused on community outreach and getting beneficiaries signed up. During the week, ASHAs and coordinators held group discussions and sessions with roughly 220 mothers. A mobile unit called Mission Parivar Vikas-SAARTHI traveled through villages to explain contraceptive options.
Health workers logged 367 IUCD insertions and 233 Antara injectable doses. They also handed out condoms, oral pills, and emergency contraceptives. The National Health Mission credited the success to a team effort between medical officers, frontline staff, and program managers. Officials now promise to keep pushing for better access to reproductive health services for eligible couples throughout the district.
