Banned Manipur Militant Coalition Claims Responsibility for Grenade Attacks

Imphal: Five banned militant outfits operating under the G-5 banner claimed responsibility for a string of recent grenade strikes. They targeted the homes of two MLAs and a fuel station in the Thoubal district. The coalition includes the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup, PREPAK, PREPAK Progressive, and the UNLF-Koireng group.

The group labeled the violence as "first warnings" to BJP MLA S Ranjan and Congress MLA K Meghachandra. Tensions boiled over after the lawmakers rejected financial demands and reportedly insulted the movement. The coalition waited a year before striking. They claimed their hand eventually forced by the disrespectful conduct of the politicians and their staff members.

On August 28, the group detonated a grenade at S Ranjan's home in Konthoujam Awang Leikai. They struck again on September 3 at K Meghachandra's residence in Yairipok Bishnunaha. The group insisted they avoided casualties during these attacks. They further accused state leaders of failing to unite since the violence erupted on May 3, 2023.

The militants also hit the Sorojini Oil Pump in Wangbal on August 29, 2026. The station owner, Thokchom Jadumani of Khangabok, allegedly defied an earlier ban imposed on February 1, 2026. G-5 told the public to boycott the fuel station. They also demanded that anyone receiving their financial solicitation letters must cooperate promptly.
