Imphal: Villagers from Leisabithol and Mullargaon are fighting to stay within the Sonapur Gram Panchayat. They met today with the Social Welfare Club and the Nunkhal Shaining Club to address the sudden administrative shift to the Hilghat Gram Panchayat. Tensions are high. The move lacks a formal delimitation order.
Sonapur Gram Panchayat Administrative Chairman Faij Ahmed claims Polling Station 40/19 and Polling Station 40/28 historically belong to his jurisdiction. While the 2024 electoral roll front page lists Hilghat, the official system still shows the villages under Sonapur. Locals have been hunting for answers. They filed multiple applications with the Electoral Registration Officer in Jiribam seeking a fix.
The ERO initially brushed off the error as a printing mistake. Nothing has changed since. Ahmed remains frustrated by the lack of progress from district officials. He said, "He appealed to the concerned authorities to examine the matter and rectify the alleged jurisdictional error at the earliest in the interest of the residents of Leisabithol and Mullargaon." Residents want the government to act now.
