Imphal: The Manipur Government Services Federation, Jiribam Branch, slammed the state government for failing to create a clear transfer and posting policy for teachers. Publicity secretary M. Romeo Singh claims political meddling and favoritism drive these decisions, not actual school needs or student-teacher ratios. The practice hurts academic results.
Constant, arbitrary transfers destroy classroom stability. Schools are reeling. The federation reports that pulling teachers during the middle of the school year without sending replacements causes chaos and forces student groups to shut down campuses in protest.
Jiribam Higher Secondary School serves as a prime example of this dysfunction. The government moved the school's only Computer Science teacher to Imphal and left no one behind to fill the vacancy. Students retaliated by forcing the school to close its doors. The federation says this proves the government lacks a real plan for school improvement.
Despite the School Fagathansi Mission, schools struggle with massive staff shortages. The federation is demanding action. "The federation said various organisations and civil society groups had repeatedly called for a clear, rules-based transfer policy but alleged that the government had failed to take adequate action."
