Manipur Officials Destroy Nearly 10 Lakh Worth of Seized Liquor

Imphal: Manipur Excise Department officials wiped out a massive stockpile of illegal alcohol in Jiribam on October 21. They poured out booze valued at Rs 9.87 lakh. The operation took place at the Jiribam Excise Station, witnessed by police, local media, civil society groups, and Meira Paibis.

Commissioner of Excise Hungyo Worshang signed off on the disposal on October 20. The booze had sat in the station storehouse between March 7, 2024, and September 27, 2026. Jiribam Excise Station Officer-in-Charge R K Rakesh Singh confirmed the inventory included items seized by his team and handed over by the local police station.

The destruction cleared out 1,076 litres of DIC worth Rs 1,07,600, along with 767.36 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor valued at Rs 4,60,410. Workers also dumped 1,399.2 litres of beer worth Rs 4,19,760. The total value reached Rs 9,87,770.

Officials cited Section 69 of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991, to justify the purge. The order stated the destruction of the seized excisable items was necessary "considering the circumstances" surrounding the long-held stock.
