Kohima: Nagaland Excise officials booked 79 offenders and seized 3,480 bottles of beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor during July. The crackdown spanned Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland. It was a busy month. The Narcotic Cell, Mobile Squad, and district teams hit bars and restaurants to shut down illegal operations.
The department collected Rs 2,16,000 in penalties. Officials deposited the cash into the state treasury. They moved the confiscated stock to the malkhana for eventual destruction by the mandated committee. Joint Commissioner S Phyobemo Kikon confirmed the details in a press release.
The state has pushed prohibition laws since the 1990s. Despite thin staffing and poor logistics, the department claims its work remains consistent. They process roughly 13 to 15 cases every workday. This adds up to 5,000 cases each year. The department stated, "Enforcement has been continuous, proactive and intelligence-driven, rather than sporadic."
