Kohima: Nagaland Excise officials seized 3,480 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and canned beer during a month-long sweep in July 2026. Teams from the Narcotic Cell, Mobile Squad, and district units hit hotspots in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland. They shut down several businesses and collected Rs 2,16,000 in fines. That money went straight to the state treasury.

The booze sits in the malkhana now. It awaits destruction after the official board signs off on the order. Joint Commissioner S. Phyobemo Kikon confirmed the department continues to fight illicit trafficking despite major hurdles. He noted, "The department has been at the forefront of enforcing prohibition laws and curbing the menace of illicit liquor and drug trafficking in the state since the early 1990s."

Resources are thin. Manpower is limited. Still, the department manages to log between 13 and 15 cases every working day. This adds up to 4,000 to 5,000 cases each year. Officials claim these efforts are intelligence-driven and continuous, not sporadic hits.

Kikon warned shop owners to follow the law or face surprise raids. The state wants the public to speak up. Anyone with tips can reach the Joint Commissioner at 9436077829 or the Superintendent at 9862658448. The office also accepts reports at 6909316927 or via email at jceexcise.nc-ngl@gov.in.
