Guwahati: Dimoria excise officers intercepted a massive haul of illegal booze at the Sonapur Toll Plaza. They seized 123 cartons of beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor intended for sale only in Meghalaya. The bust hit a major smuggling route running along the state border.
Officers tracked the load to a cargo warehouse in Moraxali, Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. A raid led by Deputy Superintendent of Excise Pritam Purkaistha uncovered CCTV footage showing the warehouse as the loading point for the illicit shipment. The team arrested two warehouse employees and the truck driver. A judicial magistrate later remanded the driver to custody.
Kamrup Metro Superintendent of Excise Debajit Nath oversaw the operation. On August 17, department leaders recognized the Dimoria team for their work. Commissioner of Excise Jitu Doly, Additional Commissioner Sanjib Medhi, Joint Commissioner Pranjal Bora, and Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Baruah attended the ceremony. The department credited the success to smart intelligence work.
The agency noted the case shows why such teamwork is vital. They stated, "The operation demonstrated the importance of intelligence-led enforcement and coordination between field officers and investigators." Investigators are still tracing the supply chain to dismantle the rest of the network.
