Imphal: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes wants answers. The commission gave the Manipur government 15 days to file an action taken report regarding the abduction and murder of six Naga civilians. If state officials fail to act, the commission will use its civil court powers under Article 338A(8) of the Constitution.
A reminder issued September 2 warns the Manipur Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police. They face mandatory summons if they ignore this latest deadline. The matter stems from a May 22 complaint by activist Asem Roshan Singh of Imphal West district.
Records show 20 Naga civilians vanished on May 13, 2026. The group included men, women, and a child. Militants seized 18 victims from the Kuki village of Leilon Vaiphei. Most captives eventually went free. However, searchers found the mutilated bodies of six men near Kharam Vaiphei village on June 10.
The commission initially demanded a report on June 16, granting a 30-day window that lapsed without a response. Now, officials have 15 days to provide the document via post, in person, or through official channels. The NCST stated that failure to comply could prompt the commission to exercise its civil court powers under Article 338A(8) of the Constitution.
