Imphal: Gunmen executed a youth early today in Imphal East. The shooting happened at Angom Leikai Laijing Ching Mayai Lampak under the Lamlai Police Station jurisdiction around 12.15 am. The victim took four bullets to the head. He died instantly.
Police identified the man as Waikhom Athoi, also known as Shidaba, the son of W. Shital and Pramodini from Khabam Mayai Leikai. He wore a dark T-shirt, dark blue half-pants, and slippers. A tattoo on his left arm remains a key detail for investigators. Locals reported hearing sounds resembling gunshots around midnight.
Authorities recovered three live 9mm rounds and one empty cartridge case from the dirt. Police and a Forensic Science Laboratory team combed the site for evidence. The body now sits at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary. Officials are holding the remains for identification and a post-mortem examination. "The deceased sustained four bullet injuries to the head," police said.
