Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces picked up four militants across Imphal West, Imphal East, and Tengnoupal districts. Officers confirmed the arrests on August 1 following a string of targeted operations. These men belong to three banned outfits.
Police caught Khunthoklemba Oinam, 30, at his home in Imphal West on Friday. He allegedly planted a hand grenade at a house in Yumnam Leikai on July 28. Officials identified him as an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party People's War Group. In Imphal East, authorities nabbed 41-year-old Ningthoujam Nanao Meitei, also known as Lanthongngakpa, for extortion. He is linked to the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak.
Two more PREPAK members fell into custody on Thursday. Security forces caught Takhelbam Yaiphaba, 25, and Khumukcham Tondonba, 22, near the India-Myanmar border. They were operating between Border Pillars 80 and 81 under the Moreh Police Station jurisdiction.
The crackdown extended to stolen property. Police intercepted a stolen Maruti Jimny, license plate AR-01T-5409, at the Senapati Police Drop Gate near the Nagaland border on July 31. Tips from the Khuzama Police Station led to the seizure. "The driver and the vehicle were handed over to a Khuzama Police team for further legal action," officials stated.
Senapati police also recovered five stolen mobile phones. They returned the devices to owners on Friday. A new tracking system has helped police recover 10 to 15 phones in the last three months. Investigators are continuing their work.
