Imphal: Security forces captured five militants in Manipur on Saturday during a series of targeted operations. The crackdown focused on crippling extortion networks across Imphal East and Imphal West.
Special Commando Units tracked down 27-year-old NRFM operative Laishram Suresh in Koirengei Mamang Leikai. They squeezed him for info. Officers later hauled in his associate, 21-year-old Nongdrenkhomba Loitongbam, from his home in Keikol Mayai Leikai. The haul included Rs 30,500 in cash, an iPhone, five NRFM demand letters, and a Royal Enfield motorcycle.
Police also grabbed 19-year-old KCP extortionist Laishram Zenith Singh in Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai. Authorities noted these arrests stem from an ongoing push against regional insurgent groups. The official report states: "The arrests and recoveries were made as part of ongoing security operations against militant groups and extortion networks in the state."
A joint security team prowling Imphal West rounded up two more men. They caught 38-year-old Phandom Dinesh Singh and 34-year-old Aheibam Silan Meitei in Tabungkhok Mayai Leikai. The team stripped them of two Chinese-made hand grenades, a Glock 19 pistol with five rounds, and a Honda Activa scooter.
