Kohima: Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma is alerting local families to a federal medical aid program. The Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme offers financial support for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe patients facing serious, life-threatening illnesses. It covers heavy procedures like organ transplants and cancer care. Funds go straight to the hospital, not the patient.
Eligibility rules are strict. Your household income must stay below Rs. 5 lakh annually. You cannot be enrolled in AB PMJAY or CMHIS health insurance. If you qualify, the foundation covers significant costs. Kidney and organ transplants receive up to Rs. 3.50 lakh. Cancer treatments qualify for up to Rs. 2.50 lakh. Brain surgery gets up to Rs. 2 lakh, while heart and spinal surgeries are capped at Rs. 1.50 lakh.
The paperwork must be precise. Applicants need a caste or tribe certificate, an income certificate from the DC office, and proof of identity via Aadhaar or a ration card. You must also include a hospital estimate signed by the Medical Superintendent. "Eligible patients must submit the application form (Annexure I) to the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, at least 15 days before treatment begins," the circular states.
