Kohima: A new government school building opened in the Kewhitsütuo Model area of Kohima this past Friday. The community funded and built the facility themselves, bypassing typical government wait times. Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor for School Education and SCERT, attended as the chief guest. He praised the local effort to strengthen public education. "We have only come here to witness what you have all accomplished," he noted.

The school supports 67 students, including 32 boys and 35 girls. Eight teachers manage the daily operations under the head teacher. Dr. Yhome compared the local contribution to a community-led version of Corporate Social Responsibility. He called schools temples of education that liberate society. The department now tracks these projects to spark similar growth elsewhere.

K. Neibou Sekhose, chairman of the T. Khel Council, said the project realized a vision from the late 1970s. The council funded the entire construction. Plans for a higher secondary school and an international-standard stadium are already in the works. The area faces significant pressure from rapid urban growth. Elders previously reserved this land specifically for educational use.

The event also marked the launch of a new sanitation vehicle for the locality. It serves 800 residents across 250 households. Kohima Municipal Council chairman Neibodzelie Solo pushed for better waste management at the site. He also urged locals to prepare for the 2027 Census. The ceremony included an invocation from Rev. Atuo Whuorie and performances by the students.
