Assam Journalists Honor Late Writer Nimananda Das

Guwahati: The Cultural Journalists’ Association of Assam gathered at the Guwahati Press Club on September 5 to honor Nimananda Das. Das worked as a writer, screenwriter, filmmaker, and journalist. Friends and colleagues gathered to recount his influence on local cinema and culture.

CJAA president Bitopan Borbora led the meeting. Guests included film directors Sanjib Sabhapandit and Chandra Mudoi, and actor-director Baharul Islam. The group shared stories about Das and his creative career. They remembered his deep professional roots.

Baharul Islam suggested that the association start an annual award for cultural journalism. He offered to cover the costs himself. The association accepted his offer with thanks. "Baharul Islam proposed that the CJAA institute an annual Cultural Journalism Award to recognise outstanding contributions to cultural journalism."

The group is now building the framework for the honor. They will decide on the name, rules, and selection process soon. Other attendees included filmmaker Hiren Bora, actors Bhagirathi and Meena Ingti, and producers like Rajesh Kumar More. Journalists Sibanu Bora, Achyut Kumar Patowary, and Amarendra Deka also paid their respects. The event focused on the work required to document Assam's cultural history.
